  • I don’t think the Tibetan is appearing for me. Is there a trick? Sarah

  • Hi Sarah !

    You might go to :

    Then download the “jomolhari-alpha003c.zip”

    Unzip it.
Install the file “Jomolhari-alpha3c-0605331.ttf” in your font directory —
    Reopen the page…

    And that’s it !

Tell me if it works !

    A bientôt !

  • There are some bugs left : is there a better font ?
    (I’m quite in a hurry now — see later… Thanks !) 😉

  • Eric:

    Hi everyone,
If you have a Mac with system 10.5 or better it should work without any problems for you.
If you are running on a Windows XP machine, you need two pieces of software: a Tibetan Unicode font like Jhomolari and an updated version of Microsoft Uniscribe that allows the tibetan ligatures to display properly.
I will try to get those files and post them on the Blog for people to download.

If any mac users have trouble reading the Tibetan, please let me know.

  • john:

In Windows, both XP and Vista, the Tibetan here displays correctly with either Jomolhari or Tibetan Machine Unicode installed. But it is important to remove Arial Unicode if you have it, as it is used by default for Tibetan despite not being able to display it correctly (vowels appear after letters instead of on top, etc.). Some versions of XP need Uniscribe, as Eric mentions; Vista doesn’t.

  • Thank you everyone. I am on Windows vista, and I have Tibetan Machine Unicode installed and use it regularly. I don’t know about Arial Unicode, but the Tibetan is not just displaying incorrectly, it is not displaying at all except as a series of line-couplets! So I’ll remove Arial if I have it and then…wait for those downloads from Eric. Right?

  • Sorry, I meant that I have windows XP. What was i thinking?

  • Salut Sarah !

I also have to wait for this Uniscribe.dll something. Could’n’t figure out… But the installation of Jomolhari I proposed you is still valid. I’m also on XP but Arial Unicode appears…
I’m beginning to wake up from the jet-lag & headache : how are you doing up there in shiny Boulder ? Here deers are troating at night & the first flames illuminating the dark fireside… Wishing you the best.

    Bonjour Eric !

Peux-tu m’expliquer ce mystère ? Sous “Hello World”, tu as écrit Lotsaba en tibétain, j’ai voulu y aller de quelques signes chinois : impossible, c’est toujours du tibétain (chaotique) qui apparaît…
Bon, ce n’est pas grave. Mais si je pouvais comprendre…
    Bien à toi,

  • Hello Eric,

With mac system 10.4, the tibetan is not appearing correctly. (except for the first line) The rest is chaotic and can only be guessed.
What should i install so that it displays correctly ?

  • Sorry, now (this version at the top of this page) does appear correctly…

  • On my XP (Edition familiale, 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2), I tried to renew the usp10.dll in c:\windows\system32 but it didn’t do anything better, the unbound but vertical stacks unfolding their components horizontally. I was supposed to place the new usp10.dll also in “c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\office10″… But I don’t have the Office Pack # 10, only a p* version of Word 97 (winword.exe) from Microsoft Office. Shall I try to place it there also ? And xas my “new” [VOLT] usp10.dll the right thing ? Bööööhh. Qui vivra verra 🙁
